The roar of bulldozers can be heard along the Delcambre canal, where construction is underway for a new marina. The marina is part of a revitalization plan for the Port of Delcambre, approved by voters nearly two years ago.
"We're looking at a lot of different concepts for the waterfront, at some point maybe a restaurant and shops and a little tourist attraction," said Port Director Wendell Verret.
"The idea is to get to a certain point with the infrastructure and hopefully private investors will take over."
To better market the revitalization plan to potential investors, the port has teamed up with the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. MBA students in Dr. Geoff Stewart's marketing courses visited Delcambre Wednesday.
"It's got a shot, we've just got to get the message out and get the people to respond," said MBA student Scott Rainey.
Over the course of their studies, students like Rainey will help market both the new marina and boat launch. An endeavor that's one part class project and another part service.
"We're trying to see what we can do to get the marina out to more people, let people know that it's here and how we can capitalize on that and what we can do to help," said Rainey.
