TRANSYLVANIA, La. (AP) The Office of Public Health has issued a water boil advisory for customers of an East Carroll Parish water system that suffered a line break Friday night.

The department says that the line was repaired Friday night, but the department cannot guarantee the water is safe to drink.

Mary Jones, the water company secretary, said Saturday morning about 1,800 customers in the Transylvania area were affected.

OPH said the water boil advisory means drinking water should be boiled for a full minute before it is used. Customers should bring the water to a full boil, then time the boil for a minute.

Officials will collect water samples from the system Monday, then transport it to Baton Rouge for testing. The lab will have results by Wednesday.
