Representative Vincent J. Pierre (D-Lafayette) will host a sign-up day for the federally mandated Affordable Care Act, also called Obamacare, with expert assistance provided by a representative of Health Agents for America at his district office in Lafayette on Saturday.
Pierre said those who miss the deadline will face a penalty of $95 dollar or one-percent of income, whichever is greater. Pierre said he will be present to provide his personal remarks and take questions from residents.
"The deadline is March 31," Pierre said, "and I want to make sure we do everything we can to assist our citizens in need to take advantage of this program by helping them enroll. I want to make sure everyone has access to healthcare by being insured, and I don't want anyone to face a penalty."
Pierre also reminded that a single person making between $11,490 and $45,960 will receive a subsidy to help pay for insurance; that no one will be turned down for coverage, there are no health questions.
Residents may apply on the official ACA website, www.healthcare.gov, may seek the assistance of a licensed agent or use the assistance provided in his office on Saturday. This assistance is free and confidential.
Pierre's sign-up will be Saturday, March 29 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm at his district office, 800 W. Congress, Suite A.
