Former Governor Edwin Edwards is keeping mum on a possible run for congress in 2016. Nola.com/The Times Picayune reports the 86 year old is going to wait a while before making any decisions.
Edwards was released from federal prison back in 2011, after serving 10 years for bribery, racketeering and extortion. The Times Picayune reports that Edwards' convictions prevent him from running for state office without a pardon, but he can run for federal office without such a pardon.
The speculation about Edwards' political future intensified in recent days after the conservative website The Hayride reported that Edwards is considering a run for the 6th Congressional District. That seat will be vacated next year when U.S. Rep. Bill Cassidy, R- Baton Rouge, steps down to challenge democrat Mary Landrieu.
