Report: LSU's Jordan Jefferson, three teammates to face battery charges

BATON ROUGE- Sportsnola.com reported Saturday evening that a source within the Baton Rouge Police Department said LSU quarterback Jordan Jefferson and three teammates will face battery charges after their alleged involvement in a bar fight early Friday morning.

LSU quarterback Jordan Jefferson reportedly will be arrested Monday for his alleged involvement in a bar fight early Friday morning in Baton Rouge.

Baton Rouge Police spokesman Sgt. Don Stone said Saturday he could not confirm the report, but said "I'm not ruling out that it's going to happen. I can't confirm it."

Stone said he hadn't yet heard from investigators who were still working the case Saturday.

An undetermined number of LSU players apparently violated curfew after a 10:30 p.m. bedcheck Thursday and were involved in a brawl in the parking lot of Shady's bar, 623 E. Boyd, near campus. Four people were injured and transported themselves to area hospitals. Baton Rouge police said 15-20 LSU players were involved but were gone by the time police arrived.

Police have not made any arrests and are still investigating the incident. LSU Coach Les Miles said in a press conference Saturday that he is also still gathering information but already has begun the disciplinary process. The team was off on Friday but returned to practice just before the press conference.

The website reported Jefferson and redshirt offensive tackle Chris Davenport face second degree battery charges while junior starting defensive tackle Josh Downs and freshman wide receiver Jarvis Landry will be charged with simple battery.

Second degree battery is a felony. Simple battery - a slap or a punch - is a misdemeanor. Second degree battery results would entail broken bones, or other physical injuries, and trips to the hospital.
