About 50 pairs of cast-iron crossed pistols that used to decorate the Interstate 10 bridge over the Calcasieu River are under lock and key in Lake Charles.
They're damaged and are being replaced.
But Steve Jiles district administrator for the Louisiana transportation department says that there's a lot of interest in them, and officials don't want them walking off.
The replacements are only a small part of a $5.7 million project to replace damaged sections of the bridge's railing and only a tiny fraction of nearly 5,300 sets of cast-iron pistols.
Jiles says the new ones are being cast at Bama Foundry in Montgomery, Ala., and are attached to the railing in Reserve.
