Rendezvous owner surrenders; charged with aggravated arson

The owner of a Evangeline Parish restaurant that burned down in July is now in custody on arson charges.

That State Fire Marshal's Office says that John Deville, Jr., turn himself in this morning to the Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Office. He is charged with aggravated arson, arson with intent to defraud, injury by arson, criminal conspiracy, and obstruction of justice.

Deville is accused of taking part in the July 21 blaze, which destroyed his Rendezvous Dinner Club. The venue was formerly a night club, hosting a number of famous rock, R&B, and swamp pop musicians during its heyday.

One of Deville's employees, Eric Johnson, was arrested in August in connection with the fire. Johnson, who investigators say is one of Deville's close confidants, is charged with simple arson, arson with intent to defraud, injury by arson, criminal conspiracy, and obstruction of justice.
