A former Acadia Parish auxiliary sheriff's deputy has filed a lawsuit against the Acadia Parish Sheriff's Office and District Attorney Mike Harson. Darren Redlich claims the district attorney's office wrongfully and maliciously prosecuted him following a November 4, 2010, bar fight in Basile.
In his filing, Redlich says he attempted numerous times to have charges filed against unnamed persons who allegedly "committed criminal acts" against him. Redlich continues by saying Sheriff Wayne Melancon and investigator Keith Latiolais declined to file charges and referred him to the district attorney's office. Redlich says Assistant District Attorney Roger Hamilton secured an indictment for malfeasance in office in order to gain leverage against his brother, Devin, who at the time was charged with attempted murder in connection with the fight.
Redlich also claims he suffered pain, loss of income, and public humiliation. Melancon, Latiolais, and Hamilton are also named as defendants in the case.
