On April 12, 2010, the Eunice Police Department was called about a subject entering Bellard’s Pharmacy located at 621 W Maple Ave in Eunice wearing a mask and a red wig. The subject entered the pharmacy, but left a short time later without speaking to anyone.
Officers were near the area when the call was received and were given a better description of the subject and what type of vehicle he was in, which was a blue Chevy pickup truck.
As Officers were proceeding to the area, an Officer saw a blue Chevy parked in a nearby parking lot with a subject in the driver’s seat ducking down as if to hide from the Officer. As the Officer radioed his observation to another Officer, the truck started to drive off. Officers got behind the truck as he sped off and drove into a neighborhood trying to evade the Officer. As the subject drove through the Gurney Subdivision, he threw out a wig and a plastic bag with a BB gun in it. Both items were recovered by Officers. The subject drove to South 9th St and pulled over. He was questioned about being at the pharmacy and was then taken into custody for further investigation.
The subject was later identified as Stephen Duplechain, 47 of 260 Veterans Dr Eunice, La
Detectives questioned Duplechain who admitted to robbing the Maple Ave Pharmacy on February 23, 2010. Duplechain was charged with the armed robbery of Maple Ave Pharmacy and attempted simple robbery of Bellard’s Pharmacy.
