Council members worked well into the night deciding whether or not to pass or override items that Parish-President Joey Durel vetoed.
Earlier this month the Lafayette Consolidated Council approved 420- thousand-dollars for pay increases at the fire department.
Durel vetoed the pay raise and last night, the council went along with the decision.
Meantime, council members were given a presentation of the capabilities of GPS tracking systems in vehicles and without enough votes to override a veto GPS systems will be installed in LGC and Lafayette Utilities vehicles.
Another controversial item on the agenda, exempting some drivers from penalties at safe-light intersections.
Durel proposed an exemption for those who turn right on red but may not always come to a complete stop.
The ordinance passed with a 5 to 4 vote so now, the fine will only be 25-dollars and will take affect in 10 days.
