A late season cold front helped to break records all across the country including here in Acadiana. Early in the weekend the cloudiness and the cold northerly winds kept our temperatures to 60 degrees Friday making it the coldest high temperature ever in May! The previous record was a 63 degree tie set on May 3, 1967 and May 2, 1970.
Skies cleared late Friday into Friday night helping to tie another record Saturday morning. The low of 44 degrees equaled the record low set on May 4, 1954. We narrowly missed the all time record low of 42 set back on May 3, 1929.
Sunday set another record. The high temperature of 66 degrees was the coldest high temperature for May 5th. The old record was 68 degrees set back on May 5, 1957.
This morning another record was tied. We briefly touched 48 degrees just before sunrise this morning at the Lafayette Regional Airport. The only other time it was this cold on May 6 was back in 1957.
