LAFAYETTE - After record-setting donations in each year since its inception, it was only natural that the Ragin' Cajuns Athletics Foundation Annual Fund would surpass its previous marks after a historic year that saw the Ragin' Cajuns produce champions in five sports.
With five months remaining in the RCAF Annual Fund, a record $1.76 million was raised in unrestricted donations, surpassing the previous mark of $1.67 million set last year.
The record-setting amount in donations comes on the heals of a year in which Ragin' Cajuns athletics was the lone school in the country to: win a football bowl game, send a team to the NCAA Men's Basketball Championships, host NCAA Regionals and Super Regionals in both baseball and softball, and send a team Women's College World Series.
Overall, the Ragin' Cajuns captured Sun Belt Conference regular-season championships in football, baseball and softball while claiming SBC tournament titles in men's basketball, baseball, softball and men's tennis.
"The 2013-14 year in athletics will be one for the ages for all Ragin' Cajuns fans, coaches and student-athletes," Director of Athletics Scott Farmer said. "We are very thankful and humbled by the continued support of the most passionate fan base in the nation. Their support is vital in both our upgrades in athletic facilities, and the ability to attract and retain the outstanding coaches and student-athletes that have helped us build a championship-caliber program."
Investments to the RCAF Annual Fund provide unrestricted funds to enhance support for overall operations, personnel, and facility improvements, such as elements of the Athletic Facilities Master Plan, which was released last year. Work on the first tier of an initial three-tier program is currently underway at Cajun Field with the addition of nearly 7,000 seats in the south end zone, the installment of a new state-of-the-art video display system, and added concession stands and restroom facilities.
The addition of the south end zone expansion resulted in the addition of a pair of prime midfield seating areas for potential season-ticket holders on the east side of Cajun Field, while current season-ticket holders will have the ability to print their tickets at home and will have mobile ticket access on their smartphone.
"Season ticket sales in football have been strong and we are anticipating another record-setting number this season," Farmer said. "With new enhancements for our fans this year at Cajun Field, including a new video board and prime seating areas, we encourage everyone to purchase season tickets and be a part of what is already a great game day atmosphere."
