Press Release: Police Chief Carroll Stelly announced additional details from the incident that occurred on Sunday August 1, 2010.
The final determination of the shooting ruled it was a murder and double suicide. With the physical evidence found at the scene and suicide notes left behind, it was clear that the 9 year old youth was murdered and the 2 adults committed suicide.
The adults have been identified as Emery Meaux Jr., W/M, Dob 8/27/74, 304 W Jeff Davis and Dana Lynn Vincent, W/F, Dob 11/16/1984, 304 W. Jeff Davis Rayne. The identity of the juvenile will not be released. Toxicology and other chemical test are pending and the investigation is continuing at this time.

Police say the boyfriend, who family members have identified as 35 year old Emery Meaux Junior, whom everyone called "Butchie," went on a shooting rampage inside their brown trailer on Jeff. Davis Avenue in Rayne- killing his girlfriend, 25 year old Dana Lyn Vincent, killing their little boy, killing one of the pets and ultimately killing himself.

The Chief of police had no specifics about a motive and off hand didn't know of any history with the law a cousin to the shooter says she knows what was going on with the couple:

On Sunday August 1, 2010 around 2:00 PM, Rayne police officers responded to 304 West Jeff Davis where they discovered 3 victims dead of gunshot wounds.
Detectives conducting the preliminary investigation have ruled it a double murder/suicide involving a 35 year old white male, 25 year old white female and a 9 year old youth. The names of the victims are not being released until next of kin are notified.
The investigation is continuing at this time.
