A Rayne man is arrested in Jeff Davis Parish on drug charges. Deputies say they stopped a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on I-10 Westbound at milepost 60 around 3:14 am Saturday. Deputies say when they exited the patrol unit, the suspect began slowly backing up until it hit the unit. The driver was then ordered to turn off the vehicle. Deputies say they could smell a strong smell of burnt marijuana and air freshener coming from inside the vehicle. The driver, Forrest Charles III, 30 years old, was cited for speeding, and gave consent for deputies to search his vehicle. Deputies say they found a cigarette pack containing 8 1/2 pills wrapped in a clear plastic bag. Deputies identified the pills as Hydrocodone. Charles was placed under arrest. Deputies also discovered in the center console of the vehicle stacks of money each wrapped in a rubber band. Charles was booked into the parish jail without incident. All contraband and currency, totaling $8,921, was seized.
