A bill that would legalize the sale of raw milk will be considered next week by a state legislative committee.
Next Thursday, House Bill 247 will be debated by the House Agriculture Committtee.
The bill, authored by Representative Stephen Ortego, D-Carencro, would allow farmers to sell fresh, unpasteurized mile directly to consumers. The bill would also require farmers who sell raw milk to label their product with their name, contact information, and a sticker stating that the milk is for personal use and not resale.
Currently, Louisiana is one of 10 states that forbids the sale of milk directly from farm to consumer.
