Rapides board approves $128K for repair projects

ALEXANDRIA, La. (AP) - The Rapides Parish School Board has approved $128,000 in increases to contracts for two repair projects in the district.
At a special meeting this week, the board approved a $53,000 increase to the contract to re-roof Peabody Montessori Elementary, which followed the Oct. 16 approval of a $75,000 increase in the contract in the Pineville High School track project.
Joe Brocato of Barron, Heinberg & Brocato Architects and Engineers said some problems developed as the existing roof was being removed.
Jim Verzwyvelt with Pan American Engineers told the board that as workers began to remove all asphalt from the existing track, heavy rains showed more problems with the track's foundation.
