MONROE, La. (AP) - Ouachita Parish Fire Chief Pat Hemphill says he expects to rescind a portion of a parish-wide burn ban prohibiting fireworks following this week's rains, although the burn ban is expected to remain in effect.
The Ouachita Parish Police Jury approved a temporary burn ban across the parish because of drought conditions. But, following heavy rains that swept through the parish this week, Hemphill says he is considering rescinding the portion of the burn ban prohibiting the lighting of fireworks on Independence Day weekend.
Hemphill told the News-Star on Wednesday that although it has not been revoked yet, because there is still some danger. But he says, the same danger is not there and he doesn't think it's going to be an unreasonable risk to allow fireworks.
