For the first time since 2007, the Ragin' Cajuns will square off on the gridiron with the McNeese State Cowboys, beginning in 2016.
Both universities confirm that the University of Louisiana and McNeese State University will make an official announcement Thursday that their football teams will play in Cajun Field on Sept. 10, 2016.
When the two schools compete in 2016, the intrastate rivalry will be renewed for the 38th time during the series that began in 1951. The upcoming meeting only will be the second time the two foes have faced-off since 1986.
Both schools say they regard the 2016 contest as an opportunity to garner a capacity crowd at newly expanded, 38,000-seat Cajun Field. McNeese actually leads the series, 20-15-2.
McNeese prevailed in the 2007 meeting by the score of 38-17.
McNeese Head Coach Matt Viator told KPLC that the series is "a great opportunity" for his program "to play a very good UL team."
"It will certainly be challenging . Coach (Mark) Hudspeth has done a great job. But it was a great atmosphere in 2007, and hopefully it will be again," Viator added.
