NEW YORK (AP) - New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn says there's nothing political about calling for tougher gun control in the wake of the deadly shooting in Colorado.
Quinn was asked Tuesday on Fox 5 "Good Day New York" about remarks by New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.
Christie said Monday that it is "not the appropriate time to be grandstanding about gun laws."
Mayor Michael Bloomberg and other politicians in New York and New Jersey have renewed calls for tighter gun control.
Quinn asked: "What is the political agenda about keeping people alive?"
Quinn also mentioned the fatal playground shooting of a 4-year-old Bronx boy on Sunday.
She added: "I just don't understand the governor's statement at all."
She's a potential mayoral candidate in 2013.
