Generous donations to 'The Power to Care' of nearly $1.6 million from Entergy customers and employees in 2013 have been matched by shareholders for a total of $2.3 million in assistance funds for customers in need.
Matching check presentations are being made to local nonprofit partners throughout the Entergy service area, including the Salvation Army right here in the Bayou State. This well-known service and outreach organization is receiving some $828,197 in assistance thanks to $581,676 in donations and $246,521 in matching funds.
In 2013, The Power to Care provided more than $2 million in assistance to 13,814 elderly and disabled Entergy customers to keep the lights on and stay comfortable during extreme temperatures. In the Entergy Louisiana and Entergy Gulf States Louisiana service areas, this resulted in $435,693 in assistance for 3,054 customers.
The Power to Care program provides local nonprofit agencies emergency bill-pay assistance to seniors and disabled customers in crisis. New and one-time customer contributions to The Power to Care are matched 1:1 by shareholder contributions - up to $500,000 annually. Employee contributions are also matched 1:1 by shareholders.
