On June 28, 2010 officers with the Carencro Police Department were contacted by a local elected official who stated that he was threatened by a known suspect.
Officers began to investigate the incident and learned that the suspect in this case arrived at the elected official's home and made threats to kill the victim unless he gave him $20,000.00 to keep personal information confidential related to his elected office. Shortly thereafter, the victim who's the public official contacted the police department to report the incident. Officers located and detained the suspect and during the course of the investigation learned that the threats were made by the suspect. Officers also learned that the suspect did not have damaging evidence against the elected official and it appeared that his motive was extortion.
This case is still under investigation and the name of the victim is not being released at this time.
