Louisiana Fire Marshal's Office is "desperately attempting to positively identify" the man and woman recovered from a burning late-90's model SUV last Wednesday on Claude Road just south of Maurice, according to a release from Vermilion Parish Sheriff Mike Couvillon.
Vermilion Parish Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Division is asking for public assistance in determining just who were these two individuals who were removed from a burned vehicle, possibly GMC Yukon, on April 16 at approximately 1 a.m.
Investigators are hoping that someone may recognize some of the apparel and/or jewelry worn by either of the victims. Investigators also are reaching out to anyone who may have a missing family member, relative or friend they have not heard from within the last week.
Couvillion said that, although the autopsy performed April 17 confirmed the gender of the victims, their race has yet to be determined.
During the autopsy, it also was determined that the male subject was wearing a ¼" link style bracelet, a long rope chain necklace approximately 24"with a 1 1/2" by 3" cross with cubic zirconia diamond studs, a 20" link necklace, a tongue piercing with a ball stud.
The female was wearing an "I love you more" bangle bracelet, all of which appeared to be stainless steel. Photographs have been posted of jewelry similar to those worn by the victims. (See above and below.)
The sheriff also noted that them male victim had been wearing a pair of either black or white, Adidas Spring Blade tennis shoes, which were size 10 with silver stripes.
The sheriff reports that the state fire marshal is "aggressively investigating this case" and asks that anyone with information please contact the Sheriff's Criminal Investigations Division at 898-4403.
Couvillion said that "additional information will be provided as this investigation moves forward."
