A public elementary school can't deny a meal to a child for the
parent's failure to pay the lunch fee without first notifying the
parent that meals will be denied for lack of payment, if Gov. Bobby
Jindal agrees to a bill (House Bill 1141) that received final
passage Sunday. If a school denies a meal to a child, it will have
to provide a sandwich or snack to the student.
