CUT OFF, La. (AP) - Disagreement over lease terms has cut off the public boat launch at Cut Off. It's the only public boat launch from Lafourche Parish to Little Lake, south of Lake Salvador.
Without the launch, parish residents must drive 80 miles to Lafitte to get into the lake.
Ryan Reis, general manager of the companies that own the land, it is reported that an informal agreement with the parish ended Jan. 1.
Parish maintenance of a gravel road had kept the launch open. But the South Lafourche Levee District is widening a levee next to that road, which must be moved.
The companies now want the parish to pay $20,000 a year. They say that would cover enlarging a private pump station needed to pump water over the bigger levee.
