MONROE, La. (AP) - Louisiana Delta Community College and ANGUS Chemical Co. started a "process technology" program at Delta five years ago to keep the plant in northeast Louisiana.

Director Jackie Johnson tells The News-Star that graduates of the two-year associate degree program typically start at $60,000 a year, working 15 days a month.

Students learn to operate manufacturing equipment that can be used at a variety of plants, including chemical, oil refinery, power generation and pulp and paper.

Out of eight Louisiana programs endorsed by The North American Process Technology Alliance, Delta's is the only one north of the Baton Rouge area.

Delta is holding an evening program about PTEC on Tuesday. Corporate representatives and graduates will be there.
