LIVINGSTON, La. (AP) - A prisoner who escaped from a transport van on Interstate 55 near Hammond has surrendered.
The Times-Picayune (http://bit.ly/nc3ONT) reported that 33-year-old Sedrick Smith, of Greensburg, agreed to meet federal marshals early Sunday in Livingston Parish. The Tangipahoa Parish sheriff says Smith was arrested without incident.
Authorities said Smith would be booked with aggravated escape and second-degree battery on a police officer.
Smith escaped July 22 while on the way to Catahoula Parish Prison. Authorities said he broke free of his shackles, assaulted the transport deputy, broke the rear window of the vehicle and escaped on foot.
