Northside High School Principal Melinda Voorhies has submitted her resignation to Superintendent Dr. Pat Cooper. Cooper says that all of this came as a total surprise.
"I'm still in shock about it because I don't understand what has happened and why she walked out of the school this morning. I did get a letter of resignation this afternoon. Just a one liner with no reason," Dr. Cooper said.
Apparently, she walked out this morning and had her secretary deliver the message to Cooper. We tried to reach out to Voorhies at her home, but no one was there at news time.
Voorhies was at the school for less than a year and was hand picked by Cooper. She was brought in specifically to help turn the school around academically. It's still unclear why she decided to leave. Cooper says he will not accept her resignation until they meet face to face.
"This has never happened to me in my 42 years. I'm a little surprised. I wasn't apprised of it, but I have a lot of respect for Miss Voorhies she must have a reason," he said
Cooper hopes to meet with her on Thursday to get answers on why she is leaving. In the meantime, the assistant principal is in charge at the school.
