BATON ROUGE, La. - Superintendent John White today announced the hiring of Anna Gatlin, Domestic Policy Advisor to Governor Mitt Romney's presidential campaign, as Communications Director. Gatlin officially started with the Department December 17, filling a position that had been vacant since June.
Gatlin has a bachelor's degree from the University of Mississippi, a master's degree in secondary English education from New York University, and a master's degree in education policy and management from Harvard. Most recently, she was a Domestic Policy Advisor to the Romney Campaign during both the primary and general elections where she advised the campaign on education policy and a range of other domestic policy issues. Prior to earning her degree at Harvard, she taught high school Spanish in Mississippi and worked in the education sector in Tennessee.
In the time since she started with the Department, Gatlin has completed an overhaul of the Department's web site and has enhanced the Department's communications with teachers, using live webinars and taped video media.
Gatlin will be paid $90,000 per year. She replaces Rene Greer, who resigned in June and was paid $111,000 per year. A consultant directed communications for the Department in the time since Greer's departure.
