President to give pay raise to troops

Troops are about to get a hefty pay raise.
It's contained in a defense bill being signed today (October 28, 2009) by President Obama.
The military pay increase of 3-point-4 percent exceeds inflation and is a half-percent more than even the president asked for.
The 680-billion dollar package also includes a major expansion of federal hate crimes law to cover sexual orientation.
