President Obama announced his nomination of Sally Jewell to replace current Secretary of Interior Ken Salazar. Jewell is currently President and CEO of REI and former petroleum engineer at Mobil.
Executive Director of the Gulf Economic Survival Team, Lori LeBlanc, issued a statement that shows hopes are high for the new nominee, "We are optimistic that the nomination of Sally Jewell for Interior Secretary will help lead the administration forward in its management of America's natural resources. The experience that Ms. Jewell brings to bear as a CEO and former petroleum engineer should help her appreciate the benefits of effectively managing our natural resources and encouraging investment in their long-term growth - factors that, in the case of the Gulf of Mexico, seem to have received low priority in recent years."
