Pregnant woman accused of injuring officer during arrest

An Abbeville police officer was injured while trying to arrest a pregnant woman, wanted on battery charges.

The female police officer is recovering from a dislocated wrist; she's expected back at work on Monday.

Police say the officer was assisting the Office of Community Services division on a case dealing with children. When she arrived at the house though, she recognized Kendra Maze, who had a warrant for her arrest.

Maze is five months pregnant and was wanted in connection with a stabbing.

Police say Maze resisted the arrest and slammed the officer's wrist into the door of the police unit. Maze was eventually arrested and charged with aggravated second degree battery of a police officer, simple battery of a police officer and resisting an officer with violence. The charge for her original warrant was aggravated second degree battery, involving domestic violence.

Maze was brought to the hospital following the arrest because she began complaining of labor pains. She is now in the Iberia Parish Jail.
