Power restored in New Iberia

This morning, an 18-wheeler snagged a power line knocking down four utility poles in New Iberia causing 42 Cleco customers to lose power, according to police.

The incident happened on Second Street near the University of Louisiana at Lafayette New Iberia Research Center Campus. The driver stayed inside of the vehicle until Cleco arrived on scene. According to Sheriff Louis Ackal, CLECO closed a portion of Second Street, from Hangar Drive to Avenue D, to traffic while the damages were repaired. There were no reported injuries. Cleco has since restored all customers, but five.

The UL Police Department is handling the incident.
