A main power line that supplies electricity to all power companies in south Louisiana is down and resulted in power outages throughout Acadiana. According to a spokesperson with LUS, the company is "shedding" power. The practice involves basically rotating power between areas in the grid meaning that an area of customers will be without power for an abbreviated period of time (ideally, no more than an hour). The spokesperson tells KATC that they expect the problem with the main supply line to be fixed by noon today.

The power outage has also caused problems with the traffic control systems throughout the city. Motorists are reminded to treat intersections where the traffic lights are not functioning as four-way stops.
