Possible Layoffs on Hold as Army Extends Fort Polk Comment Period

The Department of the Army has given Fort Polk a temporary reprieve from a planned staff reduction. The federal government extended the public commenting period on the assessment that Vernon Parish officials say could lead to the base lose 5,300 soldiers and civilian workers. The deadline for comment is now March 21.
