VICKSBURG, Miss. (AP) - The Coast Guard has a portion of the
Mississippi River closed after two towing vessels collided Tuesday near
St. Joseph, La.
There were no injuries in the collision that occurred about
midnight.
The Coast Guard says it was notified by the captain of the Hank
Tulodzieski, a 184-foot towing vessel, that his boat and another,
the 81-foot towboat Tiny Sanderson, had collided about 30 miles
south of Vicksburg.
The Coast Guard says the collision resulted in the sinking of
one barge that was carrying scrap steel. Another barge, carrying
Petroleum Coke, was recovered after being set adrift.
The Coast Guard is investigating the incident.
