The commission that oversees Vermilion Bay will receive $35,000 from FEMA to implement its safe harbor master plan. The Twin Parish Port Commission is one of 30 recipients to receive money through FEMA's Community Resilience Innovation Challenge program. Port officials say Vermilion Bay currently does not have any safe harbor accommodations during hurricanes and other storms. This plan, they say, will help rebuild and protect the region's fishing industry.
Louisiana Sea Grant will administer the grant funds.
