SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) - The president of the Port of Caddo-Bossier says barge traffic has been heavy last with outgoing cargo pushing total tonnage transported over the 10 million-ton milestone.
Jimmy Hall told the Times (http://bit.ly/vrDDbQ ) that as of Dec. 22, 2011, the port has transported more than 10 million tons.
He says it was less than four years ago that the port reached the 5 million-ton mark. The last two years have been the busiest on record with total tonnage hitting more than 1.7 million tons in 2010, and this year, we experienced the highest barge tonnage since 2004.
Officials say the milestone was achieved because the manufacturing base at the port continues to grow.
