A Port Barre man is in jail after he allegedly broke into an Opelousas home and attacked the residents. St. Landry Parish sheriff's deputies say Michael Robert Gillespie kicked in the front door of the South Union Street home and started a fight with the people inside. Officials also say Gillespie resisted arrest, hitting one deputy in the face after arriving at the jail. Gillespie is charged with one count of home invasion, two counts of battery of a police officer, two counts of simple battery, and four counts of resisting officer by violence.
