Port Allen woman arrested in ID theft

PORT ALLEN, La. (AP) - Port Allen Police Chief Fred Smith says a 21-year-old woman has been arrested for allegedly stealing the personal information of more than 20 people in a scheme to secure payday loans for herself.
Smith says, on Monday that Janecia R. Fountain was booked into the West Baton Rouge Parish Detention Center on four counts each of identity theft, bank fraud and forgery.
Smith said Fountain was a temporary employee at Iberville Career Solutions Center.
He said detectives believe that over several months Fountain unlawfully used the names, Social Security numbers and birth dates of more than 20 clients to obtain about 33 loans and more than $11,000 in cash.
It was not immediately known whether Fountain has an attorney.
