THIBODAUX, La. (AP) - Authorities in Thibodaux aren't naming names yet, but they say they believe they know who slashed dozens of tires on police cars outside Thibodaux police headquarters in May and June.
Thirty-four tires on new Chevrolet Tahoes parked at police headquarters were slashed in the early morning of May 5. It happened again June 3, when 20 police-car tires were punctured.
Police tell The Daily Comet that the damage cost taxpayers more than $7,000. Meanwhile, civil-rights advocates in Thibodaux are accusing authorities investigating the tire-slashings of harassing young black men in the community.
