Police Target Underage Alcohol Sales

On October 8, 2009, at approximately 7:00 pm, the Lafayette Police Department's Youth Services Section conducted an operation within the City of Lafayette targeting alcohol sales to those persons under the age of 21 at convenient stores and bars. During the course of the operation a total of 20 stores and 2 bars were checked for compliance. The following stores were cited for selling alcohol to persons under the age of 21:
· Tobacco Plus - 1407 SW Evangeline Thruway
· Hit & Run - 2007 Johnston Street
· Shoprite - 237 Doucet Road
· Circle K - Johnston St @ Guilbeau Rd
· Hit & Run - 2444 West Congress Street

A total of 6 citations were issued at the stores. The following bars were checked and found not to be in violation. NO VIOLATIONS...:
· The Bulldog
· Nite Town

The Lafayette Police Department continues to check those establishments that sell alcohol to assure compliance. Anyone with information about those businesses in violation should contact the Lafayette Police Department's Youth Services Section at 291-8600.
