Police say they suspect alcohol may have been a factor when a Broussard man allegedly drove his Ford F-150 pickup, with a suspended license, into a utility pole, causing a power outage for about 1300 Lafayette residents on Father's Day evening.
Officers from the Lafayette Police Department took Derrick Williams, 35, into custody shortly after responding to the 7:45 p.m. collision in the 1000 block of Kaliste Saloom Rd, charging him with, not only driving with a suspended license, but also careless operation. Other charges, police say, are pending as the investigation progresses. Williams was treated for minor injuries and power was restored for the affected residents.
