Police: Suspect Dies after Shot By Deputy Marshal

One man is dead following a shooting involving a Lafayette deputy marshal. The incident took place earlier this afternoon off of Kaliste Saloom Road. Investigators say the City Marshal's Office was assisting Lafayette police in a foot pursuit of a suspect. Officials say the suspect fired at the deputy, who then returned fire, striking the suspect. The suspect was taken to a local hospital where he later died. State police is handling the investigation, which is ongoing.
