Police still searching for bank robbery suspect

Lafayette police are still searching for the suspect in a Wednesday bank robbery.

Investigators say they have received a number of tips about the robbery at the Whitney Bank near the corner of Arnould Boulevard and Johnston Street. However, they say they do not have any concrete information at this point.

The suspect entered the bank and demanded money at gunpoint. He walked out of the bank with an undisclosed amount of money, but he dropped the cash and his weapon after a dye pack inside a money bag exploded.

The suspect may also be connected to a Tuesday night carjacking in a grocery store parking lot at the corner of Ambassador Caffery and Congress Street. He was seen driving away from the bank robbery in a white Mazda Tribute--the same type of car stolen in the carjacking.

The stolen vehicle has a Louisiana license plate with the number PIL 340.

If you have any information about either crime, call Crime Stoppers at 232-TIPS.
