State troopers are stepping up traffic enforcement during the Mardi Gras season.
According to the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission, Mardi Gras is one of the state's deadliest holidays in terms of car crashes, with 10 people dying in crashes during the 2012 season.
Local and state police have received grants from the LHSC to pay for increased patrols during Mardi Gras, allowing police to remove more impaired drivers from the road.
