JEFFERSON, La. (AP) - The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office says deputies acting on a tip about drug activity shot a Westwego man after he intentionally crashed his car into a police car, injuring a deputy.
Col. John Fortunato said it happened Friday night. Deputies had positioned cars around a parking lot where they had been tipped the suspect would arrive with crack cocaine. When the man arrived in his car, deputies activated their lights and approached his vehicle. He allegedly rammed one car, causing one deputy's minor leg injury. When he struck a second car, Fortunato said, two narcotics agents opened fire.
Fortunato said 27-year-old Lucious Stovall suffered three gunshot wounds and was hospitalized in guarded condition. Stovall was on probation for a narcotics conviction. Charges arising from Friday's incident have not been released.
