Police say they have found the car involved in a hit and run accident that claimed the life of a New Orleans police officer.
Police Superintendent Ronal Serpas says the Porsche Panamera was found Monday at a body shop near the city's police station.
Officer Rodney Thomas was on his way home from work around 1 a.m. Sunday when he was involved in a minor accident on Interstate 10. Police said he had gotten out of his car to check on the other driver when he was struck.
Thomas was 52. The married father of two had been a New Orleans police officer since 2005.
Police say they are searching for a person of interest who has an extensive criminal record involving the distribution of drugs, particularly heroin.
