Police Looking for Downtown Lafayette Shooting Suspect

Lafayette Police are looking for a suspect involved in a shooting downtown. Police say at approximately 1:43 am Saturday, officers working downtown responded to gunfire near the intersection of Cypress and Jefferson Street. When officers arrived in the area they discovered a 34 year old male suffering from 3 gunshot wounds and in possession of a handgun. Officers secured the weapon and the subject was transported to an area hospital where he remains in stable condition.

Officers indicate that an argument occurred between two men in a parking lot, at which time both subjects produced handguns and began firing multiple shots at each other. The unknown suspect, described only as a black male, fled the area on foot.

Detectives are asking anyone with information about the shooting or the identity of the suspect who fled to the scene to contact Lafayette Police or Crime Stoppers at 232-TIPS.
