Police: Lake Charles man stole from employer through false returns

A Lake Charles man has been arrested after allegedly stealing $6,500 from his employer through false return transactions at the customer service desk.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office deputies were dispatched to a store on W. McNeese in Lake Charles on June 25 after a store manager complained employe Brenden J. Bellard, 23, 217 W. Hebert Road, Lake Charles, had stolen from the store.

When questioned by detectives, Bellard confirmed he scanned items from the store and would then do a refund transaction on the item at which time he would keep the refund money and return the item back to the store.

Bellard was arrested on June 26 and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged theft over $1,500.  He has been released on a $1,000 bond set by Judge Wilford Carter.
