Bars in rural Vermilion Parish will soon have to close their doors at 2:00 A. M. The Vermilion Parish Police Jury amended its bar ordinance Monday night with a 9-1 vote. According to Police Juror Wayne Touchet, the original ordinance required bars to stop serving alcohol at 2:00, but he says some bars would prepare drinks before the deadline and continue to allow patrons to drink past the legal time. Touchet says this new law closes that loophole, as it requires the bars to close at 2:00 A. M. and patrons to leave their premises. Violators face both a 30 days in jail and a $500 fine. The law will take effect by the end of the month.
